Power Take In / Power Take off

During PTI, the electric motor helps to increase the propulsion power. During PTO, the electric machine works as a generator and power is consumed and stored, for example, in batteries.

Advantages of this hybrid system:
Very flexible drive system. The electric machine can function as both a generator and a motor. In combination with the AFE technology, multiple drive options can be realized.
Reduced emissions and lower fuel consumption by optimizing the different operating modes.
Redundant, reliable drive system because the main propeller can be driven by either the diesel or electric motor. Increased safety through the Power Take Home (PTH) functionality.
Reduced noise and vibration levels.

Battery Energy Storage System

The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a compact battery storage solution that is controlled by the integrated energy management system (EMS). The BESS can be placed in a container and directly connected to the on-board network.

Functionalities and possibilities:
Peak shaving; Equalizes the (peak) power required, preventing the need to start additional gensets.
Hot standby: Immediate availability of energy from the batteries.
Spinning reserve: Provides reserve power for spinning generators in DP mode or during full electrical operations
Quiet and vibration-free operation without running diesel generators.
Possibility to supply with integrated common mode filter.


REMAT offers comprehensive solutions that make it possible for ships to connect to the electricity grid on shore. The Onshore Power Supply (OPS) system can supply different voltages with a 50 or 60 Hz frequency. We supply these systems both air-cooled and water-cooled, in low voltage and medium voltage. From 500 kVA to 44 MVA.

OPS solutions are available for fixed locations (in a conventional electrical room), or in a transportable version (ISO container or prefabricated construction). Optionally it can contain a SCADA system that allows the customer to monitor and control his installation. The solution allows communication with other equipment or SCADA systems via different communication protocols (e.g. IEC61850, 101, 104, PROCOME ...).

The systems are prefabricated and pre-tested for quick installation, it is a scalable system and it can be expanded by adding modules that provide simultaneous power to ships as the port's needs grow.

The shore power system can be combined with batteries so that the supplied voltage can be maintained for a certain period of time.

AC Distribution

By applying a DC grid, the energy distribution between storage medium and consumer can be organized efficiently.
